(IHEP) from September 22 to 24, 2011. A group of 19 experts from world-renowned institutes reviewed the design of CSNS accelerator, target station and instrument systems.

Dr. CHEN Hesheng, IHEP Director extended his warm welcome to the experts and emphasized that this was for the first time that the International Neutron Technology Advisory Committee (NTAC) and the International Accelerator Technology Advisory Committee (ATAC) held review meetings at the same time, which was a very good opportunity for the experts of both committees to have extended discussions and exchanges.

At the review meeting last year, experts brought about the optimization scheme for CSNS target station, "that is to keep the power upgrade potential to 500 kW", which also meant a possible increase in the budget from 140 million to 167 million Chinese Yuan. At this review meeting, experts listened to the overall and detailed progress reports covering almost all the sub-systems. Many good suggestions were put forward and they commented that only mid and long-term development for CSNS project was taken into consideration, could the first-class experimental results be produced.

In the final report, experts conclude that a great deal of efficient work has been done since the review meeting last year, and they are very happy to hear that the construction will officially start early next month. A tour to the laboratory was arranged in the afternoon of September 23, during which experts visited the CSNS prototypes.
