The First International Review Meeting of the Accelerator Driven Sub-critical System (ADS) Project was held at the Institute of 

Dr.CHEN introduces the scientific activities at IHEP

High Energy Physics (IHEP) from September 19 to 20, 2011. A panel of 13 experts from home and abroad were invited to this meeting.

Dr. CHEN Hesheng, Director of IHEP, extended his warm welcome to the experts and made a brief introduction on the scientific activities at IHEP. Then, the ADS staff reported on the project background, overall developing draft, key problems in physics design and research progress in superconducting cavity etc.

After extended discussions, the experts approved the progress made in ADS physics design within such a short period of time. Many preliminary and concrete suggestions to ADS physics design, selection of cavity type, prototype research and construction of basic facilities were delivered by the experts at the meeting. The final version of evaluation will be submitted to the project management one month later.

Dr. CHEN urged the ADS staff to study the experts’ suggestions and further optimize the physics design, and start R&D of the ADS key components as soon as possible.
