The Institute of High Energy Physics (IHEP) held the 8th Summer Topical Seminar on the Frontier of Particle Physics in Beijing, from August 18 to August 22, 2011.

As a series since 2002, the seminar has been convened every year. This year the seminar attracted more than 120 teachers, researchers and post-graduates from domestic universities and institutes. The main topic was Detector and Electronics with concentration on instrumentation technologies.

Dr. WANG Yifang, Deputy Director of IHEP chaired the opening ceremony and delivered a speech. Renowned scientists from both home and abroad were invited to attend the seminar and gave presentations, which covered the latest developments and research achievements in the afore-mentioned field. Intensive topical discussion sessions were also made. Gaseous detector, semi conductor detector (Pixel, 3D), photon detector, neutron detector, extremely low background detector, FEE and readout electronics, trigger and DAQ were hot topics at the discussion sessions.

The seminar was a full success. It is commonly recognized that the seminar is an effective way of following the latest developments in the frontier of particle physics.
