The Preliminary Design Report (PDR) of the China Spallation Neutron Source (CSNS) Project passed the expert review

organized by the Chinese Academy of Sciences on May 4 in Beijing.

The PDR report consists of an overall project introduction, accelerator, target and instruments, civil construction, publics facilities, financial and project management. 32 experts from CAS, Tsinghua University and China Institute of Atomic Energy formed five advisory panels. They listened to the PDR and raised questions and suggestions, active discussions were waged.

The expert panels concluded that the PDR has fully covered the CSNS facilities, the designs and the budget estimate were reasonable. Ms. LIU Yanrong from the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) commented “compared with the past mega-science facilities, CSNS project is characterized with the largest single investment, long construction and different location. Therefore, we musthave a long-term point of view".

Officials from CAS, NDRC and Guangdong Province were also invited to attend the meeting.
