Application for national key laboratory accepted

Over 100 physicists attended the annual meeting of the CAS Key Laboratory for Technologies of Nuclear Detection and Electronics from April 18 to 19 in Beijing. The meeting was held just after the Ministry

 of Science and Technology (MOST) officially accepted the lab’s application for the National Key Laboratory at the end of March.

In order to draw a better plan for the construction of the national key lab, experts in the fields of nuclear detection and electronics gathered together to review the past activities and to plan the future. 30 reports were made at the meeting, whose topics covered dark matter detection in space and underground, research progress of GEM detector, data collection of the ocean earthquake, project progress of LHASSO and CSNS electronics, etc.

Dr. CHEN Hesheng, IHEP Director congratulated on the lab’s upgrade to the national key laboratory. He hoped that IHEP and the University of Science and Technology of China would continue the successful cooperation. According to the reports, ten projects are being planned for the activities in the year 2011. In his speech, Mr. ZHOU Wenneng from MOST offered valuable suggestions to the laboratory’s disciplinary construction and its developing goals.
