The undulator prototype U48 for the European X-ray Free Electron Laser (EXFEL U48) , which is the first to EXFEL and the first super long high-precision undulator developed in China, started its journey to

U48 being prepared for transport

DESY Germany for a second test on Feb.16th, 2011. The first test was done in Beijing in early January.

At the ceremony, Dr. JIANG Xiaoming, the Chief Scientist of this project briefly introduced the U48 research process. Dr. WANG Huanyu, the IHEP Associate Director extended his congratulations to the research team and pointed out that the successful development of U48 was also due to the efforts and close cooperation among the IHEP departments and the many domestic institutions.

“By mastering the physical principles and key technologies in the development of high performance undulators for EXFEL, we have laid a solid basis for the construction of our country’s own advanced light source and X-Ray free electron laser facility in the future and would surely improve China’s research capability in the field ."Prof.CHEN Senyu, CAS Academician commented .

At the end of the ceremony, people raised their glasses and wished U48 a safe journey to Germany.
