CSNS civil construction to kick off in mid-2011

The civil construction of the China Spallation Neutron Source (CSNS) Project is expected to kick off in the middle of 2011. The

news comes from the second meeting of the CSNS Project Management held on January 10, 2011 in Dongguan, Guangdong Province.

Dr. CHEN Hesheng, the Project Manager, introduced the current progress, and Mr. Yin Jinhui, the Party Secretary of Dalang Town, Dongguan City, reported on the land use, construction preparation, etc. The key issues and existing problems with regard to the project at this phase were discussed at the meeting. It was suggested that the Institute of High Energy Physics (IHEP) speed up the initial design and related R&D items, the Development and Reform Commission of Guangdong Province (GDDRC) coordinate with the National Development and Reform Commission on the key issues that affect the project progress, the local government solve problems concerning the road and campus.

Dr. CHEN commented that great support had been given to the CSNS Project by the local governments at different levels, IHEP would strive to develop a spallation neutron source of international standards, and simultaneously try its best to push high-tech transfer.

The meeting was quite optimistic that with close cooperation among IHEP, Guangdong Province and Dongguan City, the CSNS Project would be kicked off in the middle of this year. Present at the meeting were officials from CAS, GDDRC and the local governments.
