About IHEP
The Institute of High Energy Physics (IHEP) is China’s leading national laboratory for particle physics, under the Chinese Academy of Sciences. Our mission is to explore the fundamental laws of the universe — from the smallest subatomic particles to the large-scale structure of the cosmos — and translate scientific advances for the benefit of society.
IHEP operates a portfolio of world-class large-scale scientific facilities across multiple campuses:
- Yuquan Campus (Beijing): Home to the Beijing Electron-Positron Collider (BEPCII), the BESIII experiment, and the Beijing Synchrotron Radiation Facility (BSRF)
- Huairou Campus (Beijing): Hosts the High Energy Photon Source (HEPS), a 6 GeV fourth-generation synchrotron radiation light source currently under commissioning
- Dongguan Campus (Guangdong): Operates the China Spallation Neutron Source (CSNS), China’s flagship neutron scattering research facility serving physics, chemistry, biology, and materials science disciplines
IHEP also leads major off-site experiments including the Jiangmen Underground Neutrino Observatory (JUNO, Guangdong), the Large High Altitude Air Shower Observatory (LHAASO, Sichuan), and AliCPT (Tibet).
