Postdoc Positions at the ATLAS Experiment

2025-10-21

The Institute of High Energy Physics (IHEP) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) in Beijing, China, invites applications for postdoctoral positions on the ATLAS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC).

IHEP is a national laboratory and the premier high-energy physics center in China. The institute hosts a Tier-2 Grid site and provides excellent computing resources. The IHEP ATLAS team consists of 14 staff members and approximately 30 postdocs and graduate students. The group is strongly involved in physics analyses and the detector upgrade for the ATLAS experiment, including Higgs physics (both within the Standard Model [SM] and beyond the Standard Model [BSM]), SM measurements, Supersymmetry and other BSM searches, as well as the Phase-II upgrade of the ATLAS detector.

Candidates are expected to contribute to BSM searches, the upgrade of the Tile Calorimeter, and the development of AI applications for particle physics.

Candidates may be based either at IHEP or at CERN. For foreign applicants, there is a possibility to start remotely and be based at CERN. The appointment will initially be for two years, with the possibility of extension, subject to mutual agreement.

Outstanding candidates will be encouraged to apply for fellowships at IHEP and CAS.

Eligible candidates should have a Ph.D. in experimental particle physics by the time of appointment.

Interested candidates should send their application materials (curriculum vitae, a brief description of research interests, a list of publications, and three letters of recommendation) to Prof. Bruce Mellado (bmellado@mail.cern.ch) and Ms. Shanjun Ren (rensj@ihep.ac.cn). Please include “IHEP ATLAS Postdoc Application” in the e-mail subject line.

Applications received before November 30, 2025, will receive full consideration.
