2025-04-21

The Institute of High Energy Physics (IHEP) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences is the largest laboratory for the study of particle physics in China. Over 1500 full-time staff, along with over 1000 postdocs and graduate students, work at IHEP. Particle physics and multidisciplinary sciences are highly collaborative and international fields, and we have partnerships and experiment collaborations with dozens of universities and research institutions across China and worldwide.

IHEP is always searching for more excellent scientists and engineers, at all career stages, to join us in exploring this amazing universe. We have long-term and short-term opportunities available in our world-class research programs, which include the fields of high energy physics, particle astrophysics, computer science, cosmology, synchrotron radiation, and advanced accelerator physics. In particular, IHEP is making strong efforts to internationalize our faculty members from different cultures and ethnic backgrounds. We welcome all applicants worldwide.

Accelerator Center of IHEP has a fully equipped research and engineering team for accelerator science and technology, and undertakes the design, construction, operation, and research of many large-scale accelerator facilities, such as the operation of the Beijing Electron Positron Collider (BEPCII), the design and construction of High Energy Photon Source (HEPS), the design and construction of the BEPCII upgrade project (BII-U), design and the key technologies research of the Circular Electron Positron Collider - Super Proton-Proton Collider (CEPC-SppC). Accelerator Center also participates in several national and international accelerator projects, such as the design and construction of the Chinese Spallation Neutron Source II (CSNS-II) accelerator,Southern Light Source, the design and R&D of Southern Light Source, the construction of China initiative Accelerator Driven System (CiADS), and the international cooperation of the International Linear Collider (ILC). In addition to undertaking the design, construction and operation of the conventional accelerator facilities, Accelerator Center also carries out the research on new acceleration principles such as Plasma Wakefield Accelerator Project (PWFA).

Accelerator Center is aiming for the international leading position in accelerator-related disciplines and key technologies, carrying out related physics and advanced technology research, constructing and operating the world leading accelerator facilities. At present, Accelerator Center has 13 research groups, with a total of 235 employees, 13 postdocs, 76 graduate students.

About IHEP

The Institute of High Energy Physics (IHEP) is one of the institutes under the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and is China’s top laboratory for particle physics. We want to understand the universe better at the most fundamental level – from the smallest subatomic particles to the large-scale structure of the cosmos. We also want to use the knowledge and technology that comes from our research for the good of humanity. As well as theoretical and experimental research into particle and astroparticle physics, we have a broad range of research in related fields such as accelerator technologies and nuclear analysis techniques. The Institute also provides beam facilities for researchers in other fields of study.

IHEP’s main campus is at Yuquan Road in the west part of Beijing. The Yuquan campus hosts the Beijing Electron-Positron Collider, the BESIII experiment, the Beijing Synchrotron Radiation Facility, and most of IHEP’s research and administrative staff. In the Huairou campus located in north of Beijing, the High Energy Photon Source (HEPS) is under commissioning. HEPS is a green-field fourth generation synchrotron radiation light source with energy 6GeV. In terms of future energy frontier colliders, IHEP is leading the CEPC project as a Higgs factory and future SppC studies. An advanced plasma acceleration based facility is under development.

The Dongguan campus is one of China's leading national research facilities for materials science (China Spallation Neutron Source, CSNS). It produces neutrons with an accelerator-based system that delivers proton pulses to a tungsten target through a process called spallation. These neutrons are then directed toward state-of-the-art instruments that provide a variety of capabilities to researchers across a broad range of disciplines, such as physics, chemistry, biology, and materials science. In addition, IHEP runs experiment like JUNO (Guangdong), AliCPT (Tibet) and LHAASO (Sichuan).
