CEPC Postdoctoral Research Positions at the Institute of High Energy Physics
IHEP Introduction:
The Institute of High Energy Physics (IHEP) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in Beijing is one of the largest and most prestigious research institutions dedicated to high-energy physics. With over 1500 full-time employees and more than 900 postdocs and graduate students, IHEP serves as a pivotal center for pioneering research in high-energy physics. The institute is committed to major scientific and technological explorations, as well as leading high-energy projects, driving relevant research fields forward. Furthermore, IHEP actively fosters partnerships and collaborations with universities and research institutions worldwide, enriching its contribution to the global scientific community.
CEPC Experiment:
The next generation 100 km Circular Electron-Positron Collider (CEPC) is designed to achieve a maximum electron-position center-of-mass energy of 240 GeV. Its primary goals are to explore the properties of the Higgs boson and search for new physics beyond the Standard Model. The CEPC will be located 100 meters underground and will feature two detectors. On December 25, 2023, the Technical Design Report (TDR) for the CEPC accelerator was released, marking a significant milestone. Following the formal release of the TDR, the CEPC is expected to start construction during the15th Five-Year Plan (2026-2030), with the goal of starting CEPC operation around 2035.
The CEPC project is positioned as an international endeavor. It represents one of the most complex high-energy physics experiments globally, integrating numerous advanced technologies. This creates an urgent demand for high-tech experimental physics research and engineering talents. The development of the CEPC is progressing rapidly. Attracting high-level talent from overseas will greatly enhance the project's development, foster international scientific exchange and cooperation.
Job Opportunities:
IHEP is the leading organization responsible for the planning, construction, and operation of the CEPC. As the central institution, IHEP coordinates the various research, engineering, and technological efforts required for the successful development of the CEPC project.
We are seeking candidates to work on CEPC detector development with expertise or potential in either detector software or hardware developments. Areas of interest include:
1: Detector software: Detector simulation and reconstruction.
2: Detector hardware: Development of CEPC sub-detectors, such as tracking system or calorimeter with new technologies.
3: Readout electronics/DAQ: Particularly individuals interested in RISC-V development.
Successful candidates after their postdoc can be promoted to tenured faculty at IHEP. The CEPC project offers a unique and profound opportunity to explore new technology.
IHEP values diversity and welcomes candidates from all backgrounds worldwide. Beijing, an international city, offers vibrant communities and international schools with complete education systems from kindergarten to high school. Proficiency in Chinese is not mandatory. We provide comprehensive logistical assistance for international candidates to help with relocation, living arrangements, and all other aspects of settling in Beijing.
Application Details:
The positions will be open continuously. The annual salary ranges from 400,000-600,000 RMB (approximately 56,000-83,000 USD) with sufficient financial support for research. Applications should include curriculum vitae and statement of research interests. Please also provide the names and contact details of three references who will supply letters of recommendation upon request.
For any questions regarding the application, please contact Prof. YAN Qi at qyan@ihep.ac.cn. We look forward to your applications and to welcoming new talent to the CEPC project.
