Postdoctoral Position in High-energy Underwater Neutrino Telescope (HUNT)

2023-11-15
The Particle Astrophysics Division at the Institute of High Energy Physics is seeking outstanding candidates for a postdoctoral position within the cosmic ray group. As the earliest scientific research group dedicated to cosmic rays in China, the cosmic ray group has successfully led many major international experiments, including ARGO-YBJ and LHAASO.

The successful candidate will join the R&D work of HUNT, which is a next generation neutrino telescope with instrumented volume up to 30 km3. Its main physical goal is to search for neutrino sources with above 5 σ and carry out the full-sky survey of high-energy neutrinos, which will help us to identify the PeVatrons in our Galaxy and understand the acceleration of PeV cosmic rays in the deep universe.

The postdoc is expected to play a critical role in the detector R&D process, including detector simulation, software development, R&D of the detector components, and the prototype work in Baikal-GVD and the South China sea. The postdoctoral term is for 2 years with an option to renew for a third year.

What You Need
1.      good oral and written communication
2.      experience with data analysis tools typically used for particle physics or astronomy, or experience with R&D of detector
3.      paper publication record in high energy physics or astronomy

Education: The applicant is required to have a Ph.D. in high-energy physics or astronomy within the past three years, or soon to be completed, and age under 35.

Note to Applicants:
In addition to applying online, applicants should submit a CV and brief description of research interest to Prof. Mingjun Chen (mjchen@ihep.ac.cn). Any questions can be addressed to him. Reference letters will be asked at a later stage of the selection process. The annual gross salary is around 300K RMB.

Consideration of applications will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled.

Where You Will Work
Beijing, China, and we also encourage the candidate to work in beautiful city Chengdu, Sichuan Province, where the Cosmic Ray Research Center by our group is located.
