The High Energy Physics Institute (IHEP) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in Beijing, China invites applications for an open rank faculty position in the area of quantum computing and its application in particle physics experiments. The successful candidate is expected to play a leading role in one or more of the following research areas: (1) applications of quantum computing in event reconstruction and analysis of data collected in particle physics experiments; (2) research and development in quantum computing techniques, algorithms, and software tools; (3) migration of code in high energy experiments among various types of quantum computing platforms; and (4) innovative research in collaboration with other IHEP and external quantum computing R&D teams.
Applicants must have a Ph.D. degree in high energy physics or computer sciences, research experience in quantum information, particle physics, or computational physics, and publications in one or more of these areas. Applicants who have extensive experience in C++ and Python programming, machine learning, and data processing of high energy experiments are especially encouraged to apply. This faculty position is open to outstanding scientists of all nationalities. Fluency in Chinese is useful but not required.
The new faculty member is expected to carry out world class research in one of the listed areas, and to advise Master’s and Ph.D. students in dissertation research. The salary is internationally competitive and is commensurate with experience. Startup funding will be provided to the successful candidate. IHEP is a national lab and the premier high energy physics center in China. The BEPC collider is located on the IHEP campus. IHEP scientists play leading roles in the design and R&D of the Circular Electron Position Collider (CEPC) and actively participate in international high energy experiments (ATLAS, CMS, BELL-II, etc.) and future Higgs factory projects (ILC, FCC, etc.). IHEP is a Worldwide LHC Computing Tier-2 Grid site; its computer center provides excellent computing resources and support to researchers. For information about IHEP, please visit http://english.ihep.cas.cn/.
IHEP is located in western Beijing with easy access to city subway and bus lines linking all areas of Beijing. Beijing is served by two modern airports with numerous daily domestic and international flights, and by high speed trains to major Chinese cities and significant destinations. The city of Beijing offers rich cultural, educational, culinary and entertainment opportunities, a great variety of historic sites, as well as the benefits and convenience of a modern city.
To apply, applicants should submit a complete curriculum vitae, a list of scholarly publications and invited talks, a research plan, and arrange for at least three letters of professional reference to be sent directly to xingth@ihep.ac.cn with the subject title Faculty Search 0062022.
