He obtained his B.Sc. degree at Lanzhou University in 1985 and his Ph.D. degree at the University of Tsukuba, Japan, in 1994.

His field of research is nuclear technology and applications, mainly focused on positron spectroscopy, radiological medical imaging and its applications. He is Principal Investigator of several national scientific projects supported by NSFC and MOST.

He was awarded the first prize of Beijing Science and Technology Award twice and Pollyanna Chu (Chu Yuet Wah) Prominent Teacher Award.
