The 2014 KEK-IHEP Annual Cooperation Meeting was held at KEK, Japan, on May 12, 2014.

Prof. Atsuto SUZUKI, Director-General of the High Energy Accelerator Research Organization (KEK), heading the Japanese delegation, opened the meeting by expressing a warm welcome to the Chinese guests.

Prof. WANG Yifang, on behalf of IHEP, responded with sincere thanks for KEK’s hospitality,  and expressed his  hope that the two research organizations can continue their collaboration into the future, building on the solid foundation that’s been developed over almost twenty years,

Prof. Okada YASUHIRO, Executive Director of KEK, gave an overview of KEK activities. He also introduced the KEK’s current road map for the future (released in 2013) and the programs which will be prioritized in the next 5 years.

Prof. WANG briefly introduced the IHEP management structure and current activities at IHEP, including accelerator-based activities such as precision and energy frontier work, and non-accelerator activities such as underground, surface and space projects.

During the meeting, both sides reported on their various scientific activities over the past year in the fields of particle and nuclear physics, synchrotron radiation and accelerators, and discussed at great length on how to further strengthen the cooperation between the two organizations.

Prof. SUZUKI emphasized that the collaboration between KEK and IHEP is mutually beneficial to both institutes, and it is important to continue. In the near future, however, KEK will have to invest more effort and resources in the ILC project.

Prof. WANG shared with the participants the status of discussion in China regarding building the CEPC/SppC and participating in the ILC collaboration. He expressed his opinion that, looking to the future of high energy physics, it would be best to have both facilities available. A frank discussion of strategy for ILC and CEPC/SppC then followed.

The next cooperation meeting will be held at IHEP in 2015.
