In mid-September, a high-power test (horizontal test) for the ADS low-beta spoke cavity was
successfully carried out. The success in horizontal test symbolizes a magnificent progress for the ADS proton linear accelerator project.
Horizontal Test for Super-conducting Spoke Cavity
This test happened after the integration of the Spoke02 cavity, the high-power coupler, the tuner, and the cryomodule in early September and was the first test of the same kind in China. On September 12, experts from Peking University, China Institute of Atomic Energy, and Institute of Modern Physics (CAS) confirmed the test procedures for the spoke cavity (β=0.12), and attended the on-site test (at the range of high Eacc).
The test results indicated that Q0 reached 8.5×108 while Eacc was 5.0MV/m, and Q0 was 2.2×108 with Eacc6.5MV/m. Th performance has basically met the designed parameters proposed in the Assignment Book of ADS Project, as well as the latest technical needs requested by accelerator physics of Injector I on super-conducting spoke cavity.
The β value of this super-conducting spoke cavity is only 0.12, whose development and machining were quite difficult. In the wake of the successful vertical test last year, Spoke012 Cavity steps closer towards practical operation.
