The 15th International Conference on Polarized Neutrons in Condensed Matter Investigations (PNCMI 2025), held from February 24 to 28, 2025, in Dongguan, Guangdong, brought together leading experts to discuss the latest advancements in polarized neutron platforms and their applications in condensed matter research, as well as future developments in the field. The event attracted over 70 experts from more than 20 research institutions and universities worldwide.
Polarized neutron technology is a cutting-edge experimental technique actively developed at major neutron sources globally. It serves as an indispensable tool for studying magnetic thin films, novel magnetic storage materials, high-temperature superconductors, and exotic quantum materials, and has been successfully applied in research on magnetism, strongly correlated systems, nanomaterials, spintronics, polymers, and biological materials. Given its high technical barriers, international collaboration and talent recruitment are crucial for advancing China's polarized neutron capabilities. The PNCMI 2025 conference is expected to accelerate research and applications of polarized neutron technology in China, expand its user base, and cultivate a new generation of young scientists.
Currently, China’s first polarized neutron experimental platform has been established at the China Spallation Neutron Source (CSNS) in Dongguan, completing the full-chain R&D of polarized neutron technology. This platform will support key measurements for superconducting applications based on macroscopic quantum phenomena and efficiency improvements in electric vehicle motors.
Wang Sheng, Deputy Director of IHEP and Chief Commander of the CSNS Phase II Project, emphasized the conference’s strong international influence, with participation from renowned experts in polarized neutron technology and applications. He encouraged young researchers to systematically learn fundamental theories, spectrometer techniques, and cutting-edge research topics in polarized neutron scattering. Among the 20 planned beamlines at CSNS, more than half will feature polarized neutron capabilities. In the future, CSNS will provide critical experimental support for materials science, energy research, biomedicine, and precision manufacturing, driving groundbreaking scientific achievements.
As part of Dongguan’s High-Level Talent Week, PNCMI 2025 received strong support from the Dongguan Municipal Government. The conference showcased China’s scientific capabilities at CSNS and Dongguan’s innovation ecosystem, serving as a high-end platform for international collaboration, academic exchange, and talent networking in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
