On March 30,2024, the Institute of High Energy Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences held the launching meeting of the China Spallation Neutron Source Phase II Project of the National Major Science and Technology Infrastructure, in Dongguan, Guangdong Province.
With 11 neutron spectrometers and experimental terminals, the number of neutron spectrometers will be increased to 20, and the first experimental terminal and high-energy proton experimental terminal will be added. Meanwhile, the accelerator beam power will be increased from 100 kW to 500 kW, and the construction period is 5 years and 9 months.
Since China Spallation Neutron Source completed the national acceptance and put into operation in 2018, the number of users has increased rapidly. At present, the registered users have exceeded 6,000, and the supply exceeds supply. Up to now, it has completed more than 1,500 user experimental projects (including more than 100 from Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan and abroad), covering many cutting-edge research and development fields such as energy, physics, materials and engineering.
