On September 27, 2019, the China Spallation Neutron Source (CSNS) reached a beam power of 80 kW, taking a step forward to the design goal of 100kW.
Before this achievement, CSNS was shut down for a two-month summer maintenance. Both the software and hardware devices of the accelerator system and the target station system were respectively tested and maintained, to eliminate the problems and dangers that may take effect on the increase of the beam power. After the accelerator resumed operation in September, the beam power was gradually increased from 50 kW to 65 kW, and finally to 80kW on September 27. The beam current and machine parameters were optimized and the beam loss was strictly controlled. It has taken a crucial step forward in reaching the 100kW design goal.
