CAS-CityU Joint Laboratory on Neutron Scattering Established

Date: 2019-02-27 Author:

The Joint Laboratory on Neutron Scattering (Joint Lab), co-established by the Institute of High Energy Physics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and the City University of Hong Kong (CityU), was officially unveiled on February 27.

The Joint Lab is the only laboratory in Hong Kong that studies neutron scattering and aims to strengthen cooperation with neutron scattering scientists from the CSNS in Dongguan on specialist training, research and equipment R&D.

Professor Yang Zhenning, winner of the Nobel Prize in Physics, Professor Guo Wei, President of City University, and two Joint Lab directors, Professor Chen Hesheng, Director of the China Spallation Neutron Source Project and Academician of CAS, and Professor Wang Xunli, Director of the Department of Physics attended the ceremony.

Since 2015, CAS and the Hong Kong Crounch Foundation have supported CityU to establish a joint neutron scattering laboratory. In October last year, the Joint Lab was accredited by the CAS and ranked first among the five new joint laboratories that passed the assessment.

Professor Yang Zhenning pointed out that the study of neutron scattering is of great significance in materials science, biology and chemistry, and technology is one of the development priorities of the Greater Bay Area. He believes that the establishment of the Joint Lab will have great development in the future in the Greater Bay Area.
