CSNS First Annual Meeting Held in Huizhou

Date: 2018-09-18 Author:

The first annual meeting of China Spallation Neutron Source (CSNS) was held in Huizhou City, Guangdong Province from September 11th to 13th. More than 160 scientists and engineers attended the meeting, and they are from the Institute of High Energy Physics, the China Academy of Engineering Physics, the Shanghai Institute of Applied Physics, the University of Science and Technology of China, the Institute of Modern Physics, the China Institute of Atomic Energy, etc.

Professor Chen Hesheng, project manager of CSNS, delivered an opening speech. He said that the annual meeting is important for a large-scale scientific facility like CSNS to summarize the achievements that have been made, lessons that have been learned and future plans that need to be done. CSNS is currently in a critical period before fully open to users. Therefore it is necessary to improve the operation management, like establishing operational procedures and making emergency plans. Meanwhile CSNS should also focus on increasing the power of the accelerator, meeting different needs of users, and most importantly, achieving an efficient, stable and reliable operation. “The task is still quite arduous. I hope that the meeting will go through what we have learned in the past few years, and make a full preparation for the next step.” Said Chen Hesheng.

Wang Sheng, head of accelerator division and Liang Tianjiao, head of neutron science division, made a summary report on the commissioning operation of the CSNS accelerator and target station. The CSNS partners are also invited to introduce their experiences in beam commissioning, facility operation, as well as their suggestions for improvement.

At the closing ceremony, Fu Shinian and Wang Fangwei made a report on the CSNS accelerator beam power upgrade scheme and the future development plan of the CSNS neutron instruments.

Professor Chen Yanwei, deputy director of IHEP, on behalf of the IHEP leadership, congratulated the CSNS project on passing the national acceptance. He believed that with the joint efforts of all CSNS staff, CSNS will have a bright future. “We are lucky that we have a strong support from the strong economic foundation of Guangdong Province and Dongguan City. Therefore we are confident that we will help promote the economic development and industry upgrading, and play an important role in prospering the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Areas.”
