January 6, 2017. The reflector plug for the China Spallation Neutron Source (CSNS) has passed the acceptance tests in Hefei on January 6, 2017. The CSNS Chief Engineer, Prof. Qu Huamin, and some other experts from CSNS attended the acceptance meeting, and made an on-site inspection.
The reflector plug is one of the core components of CSNS which plays a significant role in reflecting, moderating and generating neutrons. Mainly made of beryllium ,stainless steel and aluminium alloy, the reflector plug consists of three cylinders in different sizes. The lower reflector has cooling channel inside, while the intermediate and upper reflectors are solid construction which shield the leaking neutrons.
The main technical requirements of reflector plug, such as the boundary dimension of the whole plug, the dimension of all channels and the relative height of locating surface, all reach the design requirements. The welding lines of reflector have passed both pressure tests and helium leak tests. The pre-assembling with moderators are finished.
The acceptance panel made a comprehensive and detailed inspection of the technical documents and the test results. They agreed that the device pass the acceptance tests. So far, the whole system of moderators and reflector has arrived at Dongguan, and installation is under way.
