Merging the former Synchrotron Radiation Lab, Nuclear Analysis Lab and Free Electron Laser Lab, the Center was created in 2006. It's responsible for construction, operation and application of the Beijing Synchrotron Radiation Facility. With advanced accelerator and nuclear analysis technologies, the Center also carries out such cross-disciplinary researches as condensed physics; chemistry, biology, nano- materials, environment and resources.
The Center is equipped with such facilities as the Beijing Synchrotron Radiation Facility (BSRF), the Beijing Free Electron Laser Facility (BFEL), the Beijing Intense Slow Positron Source (BISPS). BSRF is the cooperative laboratory with the National Center for Nano- science and Technology (NCNST) of China, they cooperate in building a joint laboratory for biological effects of nano-materials and nano-safety.
The CAS Key Lab for Nuclear Analysis Technology, affiliated to the Center, conducts researches on atomic and molecular components, surface features and internal structure of matter.
