The Institute of High Energy Physics held its 2016 Seminar for Strategic Planning from April 21st to 22nd in Dongguan Campus, Shenzhen. IHEP Directors, members of the IHEP Science Committee and leaders from the various research divisions and administrative departments attended the meeting.

At the seminar, the delegates reported on the latest progress and estimated goals. They also discussed current problems, possible measures to address these, and the future orientation of the institute.

The reports covered current research projects and experiments, including the BESIII experiment, CSNS project, HXMT project, frontier research on high energy particle physics, particle astrophysics studies, advanced accelerator physics and technology, nano-medicine studies, neutrino experiments, nuclear detection and nuclear electronic research, X-ray optical technology, HEPS-TF, ray technology applications, the “Ali” primordial gravitational waves project, the LHAASO project and the ADS project.

“We are having this seminar right after BEPCII luminosity set a new world record several days ago. Now IHEP researchers have more confidence to take on larger and more difficult research projects in the future,” said Prof. CHEN Hesheng, Director of the IHEP Science Committee.

Other than focusing on the scientific research, delegates also considered how to attract distinguished scientists and technicians to IHEP, how to build high-level research teams, and the establishing of national laboratories and a large science center.

Prof. WANG Yifang summarized at the seminar that we must have a clear understanding of our own technical advantages and those of our competitors when exploring the development of the institute.
