The Sixth International Workshop on LHAASO (Large High Altitude Air Shower Observatory) was held in Chengdu from October 18 to 20, 2015. More than 90 scholars from China, France, India, Italy, Japan, Russia and the U.S. attended the workshop.
At the workshop, the scientists from abroad introduced the status of the high altitude air shower experiments currently under construction or running around the world, including LAT, HAWC and AUGER. The Chinese scientists introduced on the progress of LHAASO and the ASγ、ARGO-YBJ experiments. The workshop had 27 talks covering 5 subjects. Serious discussions and exchanges were carried out between the scientists, laying a good foundation for future cooperation.
The workshop has been a full success with the strong support from the local governments and scientific institutions. Deputy Director General of Sichuan Provincial Development and Reform Commission Liang Wuhu made his remarks of congratulations and expressed his full support to LHAASO Project.Vice President of Sichuan University Li Guangxian said that his university is very happy to be member of the LHASSO Collaboration. Wang Xueding from the CAS Chengdu Branch assured the scientists that his Branch will be willing to bridge the CAS institutes and the local governments in the construction of the LHAASO Project.
Representing IHEP, Associate Director Chen Gang extended his hearty thanks to the local governments and the representing institutions for their strong support to LHAASO. With this support and the broad collaboration with partners from both home and abroad, IHEP will accomplish the construction of LHAASO and promote the progress of basic science as a whole. By accomplishing LHAASO, it is expected to produce high-caliber scientific results and to achieve breakthrough in the studies of cosmic rays.
The workshop was co-organized by CAS Chengdu Branch, CCAST (China Center for Advanced Science and Technology), Sichuan Provincial Development and Reform Commission and Sichuan University. During the workshop, a cooperative agreement on LHAASO was signed between IHEP and Sichuan University.
