Workshop on JUNO Neutrino Astronomy and Astro-physics Held at IHEP TEXT SIZE: A A A
——

The Workshop on JUNO Neutrino Astronomy and Astro-physics, co-sponsored by the Center for Particle Astro-physics, Center for Experimental Physics and Division for Theory of IHEP, was held at IHEP on July 10-11, 2015.

More than 60 scientists from IHEP, Beijing University, Qinghua University, Shanghai Jiaotong University, Nanjing University, Nankai University, Wuhan University, Beijing Normal University, Zhongshan University, East China University of Science and Technology, National Astronomical Observatories, Yunnan Observatory, Purple Mountain Observatory, the Institute of Computing Technology, University of Nevada, University of Minnesota and MIT attended the workshop.

The Workshop aimed to strengthen cooperation and exchanges among the institutions represented at the workshop, exploring supernova neutrino detection and its relevance to particle physics, astro-physics and astronomy. Scientists of different backgrounds gathered together at the workshop, discussing the significance of JUNO with respect to its detection potentials and to physics as well. They all expressed willingness to strengthen substantial cooperation on JUNO.

JUNO (Jiangmen Underground Neutrino Observatory)which is now under construction in Jiangmen, is a multi-purpose neutrino experiment designed to determine neutrino mass hierarchy and precisely measure oscillation parameters by detecting reactor neutrinos. In addition, it also observes supernova neutrinos, geo-neutrinos, atmospheric and solar neutrinos as well, which bears significance to studying the mechanism of stellar evolution and supernova explosion. JUNO will provide a broad platform for studies in physics, astronomy and astro-physics.
