A panel of 16 experts from China Institute of Atomic Energy, China Academy of Engineering Physics and CAS institutes were invited to join the meeting.

Dr. CHEN Hesheng, Director of IHEP and Manager of CSNS, extended his warm welcome to the experts. He mentioned that the target station was the most challenging task in CSNS project. At the previous CSNS NTAC review meeting last September, foreign experts brought about the optimization scheme for CSNS target station, that is to keep the power upgrade potential to 500 kW, meanwhile, the whole TMR horizontal remote handling concept be adapted to horizontal (target) plus vertical (moderator and reflector) remote handling concept. These modifications would make CSNS project more competitive compared to other MW power level neutron sources in the world.

Prof. WANG Fangwei, Director of the CSNS experimental system introduced the overall project progress. The detailed reports covering neutron physics, target, moderator and reflector, remote handling, shielding and PPS system were made by the CSNS staff. Fruitful interactions and discussions were conducted between the experts and the CSNS staff.

The experts concluded that a great deal of progress had been made during the past years. Valuable comments and suggestions were made on shielding design and engineering, waste management, key component lifetime validation and inspection, personnel protection system and so on. Dr. Chen Yuanbo, CSNS associate manager, expressed his thanks to the experts and hoped to have their continued support for the future construction of CSNS.
