Call for Proposal

Date: 2018-12-01

The China Spallation Neutron Source (CSNS) offers neutron scattering to all qualified users. The proposals of beamtime application for the first round of CSNS in 2018 have been fully reviewed and the results of the review have been sent to all applicants. The proposal round of CSNS in the first half of 2019 is from Feb. 11th to Jun. 30th, 2019, and users at home and abroad are welcome to submit applications online. All proposals will be critically reviewed for scientific merit by experts.

The deadline for this proposal round is Dec. 11th, 2018 (At 0’clock on Dec.12th the CSNS User Service System will close the application channel). And the next call for proposal will start in May, 2019.

For this proposal round:

Applicants must submit proposal through the CSNS User Service System (http://user.csns.ihep.ac.cn/). And you must have an account to submit the proposal. The application background (purpose, significance, current status at home and abroad), experimental plan, expectations, experimental methods and estimated beamtime should be clarified in the proposal. All proposals will be reviewed by experts. Once your application has been scheduled, you will receive an email from the CSNS User Office, confirm the date of the experiment and the appropriate sample environment. Please complete all of the access notification/registration online at http://user.csns.ihep.ac.cn/, to ensure that the experiment can be done on schedule. After the experiment, the experimental report must be submitted within three months.

In the current call for proposals, the following instruments are offered to applicants.

General Purpose Powder Diffractor (GPPD)

Instrument Scientist:Lunhua He (lhhe@aphy.iphy.ac.cn)

Multipurpose reflectometer (MR)

Instrument Scientist: Tao Zhu (tzhu@aphy.iphy.ac.cn)

Small Angle Neutron Scattering (SANS)

Instrument Scientist: Yubin Ke (keyb@ihep.ac.cn)

The brand new instruments are currently being commissioned. This means that they are not fully functional. We are still adding and testing features. In this proposal round, we need sufficient time available to complete the commissioning and solve problems as they are found. By applying for this time, you are agreeing to help with commissioning by testing the instrument and providing feedback so that we can ensure reliable service in the future. Please contact the instrument scientists if you have any question before your application.

China Spallation Neutron Source(CSNS)is a National Science and Technology Major Infrastructure Project within China's 11th five-year program, and a large-scale research platform for high-tech and multidisciplinary applications at the international frontier.
